Extended service intervals as well as short start-stop journeys are affecting the efficiency and performance of engine oils. Although oils are designed to last between service intervals, they become contaminated and break down, says Forté.

The UK’s leading treatments company has identified several causes for this: some old oil may remain in the system, therefore contaminating fresh product added during servicing; driving styles can seriously hamper the performance of the formulation; and short journeys mean that the oil does not get up to optimum operating temperature and is constantly stressed. The results of oil breakdown are far-reaching and can be costly to rectify with varnishing, lacquering and sludge build up affecting important engine components.

Forté has proactively developed a “Clean & Protect Programme” for garages and service workshops that ensures engines are fully protected from one service to the next, with oil maintaining optimum stability throughout. This is great news for garages because for the first time ever they can provide an enhanced front line defence mechanism to oil breakdown.

Forté Clean & Protect comprises a two stage treatment.  First the engine is cleansed with Advanced Formula Motor Flush. This removes all contaminants and ensures that the residual oil is neutralised of any acids. Even when an engine is flushed we still retain up to 15% of the old oil, the difference being it has been neutralised of its acid.  The system is then ready to receive fresh oil together with Oil System Protector to enhance oil performance and helping to prevent the breakdown of oil from one service to the next.

Oil System Protector is a special formulation that improves oil stability and dramatically reduces lacquer and varnish formation. This in turn prevents oil burning and reduces valve train wear. It also prevents – and eliminates hydraulic valve noise and ensures that variable valve timing systems work freely and smoothly.

The Clean & Protect Programme can be enhanced further by adding Forte’s Advanced Formula Diesel Treatment or Advanced Formula Gas Treatment. With this thorough, detailed approach to engine servicing, garages can keep the engine clean and the oil system in tip-top condition between services.
